The case study method, as a key research strategy, has gained significant attention in social sciences and other fields due to its flexibility and ability to deeply analyze phenomena. This study aims to provide a comprehensive exploration of the concept, functions, and paradigms of the case study method. To achieve this, a mixed-method approach combining case study and qualitative content analysis was employed, with relevant concepts extracted and categorized through a systematic review of credible sources. The findings indicate that the case study method, due to features such as creativity, contextual analysis, and comprehensiveness, serves as a valuable tool for addressing complex issues. Additionally, the functions of this method include facilitating education, enhancing learning, solving business problems, and exploring and describing complex phenomena. Philosophical paradigms of this method, ranging from Yin’s positivism to Merriam’s and Stake’s constructivism, provide diverse frameworks for designing and conducting research. Despite its numerous advantages, challenges such as the difficulty of triangulating data and the need for diverse resources were identified. This study emphasizes the importance of the case study method and offers suggestions for utilizing this approach in future research while extending its application to new fields.
